Vascular Surgery Training

The majority of vascular surgeons feel the field is now different enough from traditional general surgery that independence is needed, in one form or another, from the American Board of Surgery. The proposal for full independence was not successful, but a compromise was reached the opened the way to a Primary Certificate in Vascular Surgery. Vascular surgeons no longer have to be trained in or certified as general surgeons and training programs with five years of core general and advanced vascular surgery training are being established.

"Killer At Large" (Surgeon General says, 'obesity is the terror within...')

Obesity rates in the United States have reached epidemic proportions in recent years. The Centers for Disease Control estimate that at least 110,000 people die per year due to obesity and 1/3 of all cancer deaths are directly related to it.

Former Surgeon General Richard Carmona remarked that obesity is a more pressing issue than terrorism, 'Obesity is a terror within. It's destroying our society from within and unless we do something about it, the magnitude of the dilemma will dwarf 9/11 or any other terrorist event that you can point out...' From our human evolution and our changing environment to the way our government's public policies are actually causing obesity, "Killer at Large" shows how little is being done and more importantly, what can be done to reverse it.

"Killer at Large" also explores the human element of the problem with portions of the film that follow a 12-year old girl who has a controversial liposuction procedure to fix her weight gain and a number of others suffering from obesity, including filmmaker Neil Labute.

The film features interviews and covers events with such notable public figures as Former President Clinton, Ralph Nader, Senators Tom Harkin and Sam Brownback, Arnold Schwarzenegger, former Surgeon General Richard Carmona and a number of bestselling authors and renowned experts like Michael Pollan, Barry Glassner (Bowling for Columbine), Dr. Kelly Brownell (Supersize Me), Dr. Barry Poplin (Penn and Tellers Bullshit) and many others.

This film will be released on DVD in March 2009.

General Surgery - If These Walls Could Talk

From the album "Left Hand Pathology" (2006).
Lyrics:
The tiles splattered with waste
Intestinal fluids and sinew
If these walls could talk
Theyd regale with tales of horror

An anthology of vitiation
If these walls could talk

Mute witness to the horror
A sanguinary cataclysm
Malicious vivisection
Vile dismemberment

An anthology of vitiation
If these walls could talk

A desensitized beholder
Of decadence and bloodshed
A murderous dystopia
Filtered crimson red

Cold harsh stone
Clotted with offal
A permanent audience
To regular dissection

An anthology of vitiation
If these walls could talk

Graphic Mastectomy Surgery using the PEAK Surgical PlasmaBladeTM

PEAK Surgical has developed a family of disposable surgical cutting and coagulation tools to ensure that general surgeons have the technology they need for a variety of procedures:

The PlasmaBlade 4.0, which is designed to be used to cut through all types of soft tissue, including skin, fat and muscle.

The PlasmaBlade Needle, which has a fine needlepoint tip, is specifically designed for use in ultra-precise surgical procedures.

The PlasmaBlade EXT is designed for use in surgical procedures requiring an extended tip to reach deep into the body, such as small incision lumpectomies or axillary procedures.

The PlasmaBlade is proving to be useful in a variety of general surgery procedures, including:

Breast surgery
Mastectomy (single, total, radical, modified radical, skin-sparing, segmental)
Lumpectomy
Quadrantectomy
Axillary and sentinel lymph node dissection
Breast reconstruction

General Surgery - Convivial Corpse Disposal Methodology

From the album "Left Hand Pathology" (2006).
Lyrics:
Pathological waste abounds
Cadavers lined wall to wall
Foul-whiffing stiffs all around
A bonfire would clean it all

Frenzied cauterization
Now seems slightly passé
A more gleeful method seems fitting
To spread havoc and disharmony

Dispensation of carrion embellished
In a delightfully mirthful way
The disposal of my spent toys
A most superbly distasteful fray

Mannequins discretely exchanged
For a different fashion model
Now view the spring collection
As worn by bloated corpses

The ghastly remains strategically placed in public spots
Much to the amusement of my like-minded pathologist chums

De-truncating limbs, slack heads are lopped
Soak the pieces in preservatives to debar foul rot
Wrap the stinking presents and then regroup
To deliver bloody packages to your front stoops

Blithely positioning cadavers on a park bench
Horrified children recoil and blench
Hang a corpse by its intestines from a nearby tree
For the public to admire my disposal methodology

Our gruesome tasks masked by off-putting gaiety
The jocular demeanour veils your repugnance but barely
Jovially dissecting and disposing of the gore
Our brash disposal methods leave you shaken to your core

Unauthorized surgeries
Dismantling anatomy
Solemnizing necrotomies
Convivial Corpse Disposal Methodology

Suspended stiffs on wires
Make for hours of entertainment
A pus-dripping puppet show
An enchanting display of debasement

The jovial sense of misconduct
Derived from the publics disgust
Young and old repelled by the reek
of rank, putrefying meat

The mortuary waste diminishing for every prank
Cadaveric clean-up of my vile, putrescent body bank

Tossing rigored stiffs from embankments and cliffs
Setting carcasses ablaze, and other procedures most comedic
Our ingenuity is tested when our patients die
Inventive methods of disposal our modus operandi

Villainy demonstrated with our internment techniques
Bodies stored in 50-gallon drums until they start to leak
Mincing the dead into finely ground organic scrap
Mulching your garden with our latest mishap

Rollicking through our disposal drills
Dispatching the murdered is better than the kill
Slowly dissolved in acid, encased in tar
Or dumped in plastic bags from a moving car

Unauthorized surgeries
Dismantling anatomy
Solemnizing necrotomies
Convivial Corpse Disposal Methodology

Typical Injuries to Surgeons with Dr. Adrian Park

According to the findings of a recent survey, surgeons who engage in minimally invasive, laparoscopic surgery, while providing great benefits to their patients, are possibly doing so at an increased risk to their own overall health and well being.

The survey, developed by Adrian E. Park, M.D., chief of general surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center and professor of surgery and vice chair of the Department of Surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, found that 87 percent of laparoscopic surgeons have experienced physical symptoms or discomfort as a result of managing the unique surgical constraints associated with laparoscopic surgery.

In this video, Dr. Park takes viewers into the operating room as he performs a laparoscopic nissen fundoplication procedure. Dr. Park explains the challenges of performing minimally invasive surgery and how these challenges limit the surgeon's movements and impact his or her body both during and after the procedure.

General Procedures in Oral Surgery

This tape, with the use of a hypothetical patient, demonstrates treatment planning and instrumentation in Oral Surgery. Orig. air date: JUN 5 72

General Surgery - The Succulent Aftermath Of A Subdural Hemorrhage / Ominous Lamentation

From the EP "Necrology" (1991).

General Surgery isn't just your average Carcass clone. Recorded at Studio Sunlight and featuring some of the most talanted brutalizers from the oldschool Swedish Death Metal scene, like:
Jocke Carlsson (Afflicted) - Guitar
Mats Nordrup (Crematory) - Drums
Matti Karki (Carnage, Dismember) - Bass/Vocals
Grant McWilliams - Vocals
,so you know this is some fat, crushing stuff!
I finally got this ridiculously hard to find "posterbag" version, limited to 2000 copies, with an awesome poster + sticker! Find one too!! Buy or Die !!!!!

General Surgery is an active band , releasing 2 full-lengths so far, check them out! http://www.myspace.com/generalsurgery

Lyrics:

A lustful necrophiliac, your carcass I explore
Your suppurating remains, I happily deplore
Lymphatic, runny fluid, is a sight I can't resist
Ichorous, reeking juices, I extract from numerous cysts
Skull a spongy mass, your profile inconsistent
Ears reduced to taps, a flood of red liquescence
Brain reduced to sludge, sanguinary feast
Coagulating waste, I gorge myself on pus
Lacerated organs, make me shiver to the bone
Whipped into a frenzy, I fillet, suck and groan
Memorize then masturbate, bloody, Soaked and ravaged
I scoop you into bags, a reeking pile of garbage...

PreOp® Patient Education: Biopsy Surgery, General Surgery

http://www.PreOp.com
Patient ED @ 617-379-1582 INFO
On the day of your operation, you will be asked to put on a surgical gown.
You may receive a sedative by mouth and
an intravenous line may be put in.
You will then be transferred to the operating table.
Your doctor will scrub thoroughly and will apply an antiseptic solution to the skin around the area where the incision will be made.
Then, the doctor will place a sterile drape or towels around the operative site ... Patient Education
... and will inject a local anesthetic. This will sting a bit, usually, the surgeon will inject more than one spot - in order to make sure that the entire area is thoroughly numb.
After allowing a few minutes for the anesthetic to take effect, the surgeon will make a small incision.
Once the incision has been made, your doctor will begin looking for the lump.
You will feel some pressure or even slight tugging or pulling - but you should not feel any sharp pain.
Once the lump is removed, the doctor will close the skin over the incision as neatly and as cosmetically as they are able.
Finally, a sterile dressing is applied.
Your tissue specimen will be sent immediately to a lab for microscopic analysis. Your doctor will tell you when to expect results from the tests.

CRUCIFYRE "Infernal Earthly Divine" Trailer

The true legend continues on with a newfound demon under the moniker CRUCIFYRE! With an astounding "Thessalonian Death Cult" demo under their belt, the debut full-length album "Infernal Earthly Divine" perfectly integrates the raw and unhinged sound from where they left off, proving once again old-school Swedish Death Metal's authenticity at best.

With members comprising of the legendary Morbid, Afflicted, Crematory and General Surgery, "Infernal Earthly Divine" is undoubtedly the most stripped-down, terrorizing Death Metal in its purest essence!

PreOp® Patient Education Minimal: Biopsy General Surgery

http://www.PreOp.com
Patient ED @ 617-379-1582 INFO
Your doctor has recommended that you undergo a biopsy procedure - or lumpectomy. But what does that actually mean?

Biopsy is a general term which simply means "the removal of tissue for microscopic examination."

Your doctor intends to remove tissue from your body, not because you're necessarily ill, but because biopsy is a very accurate method for analyzing unusual growths or other suspicious tissue. Because it provides such accurate diagnostic information, biopsy is an important diagnostic tool in the fight against cancer.

In your case, you have a suspicious lump or other tissue which needs to be examined. It may have been felt by you or your doctor... or spotted using other diagnostic tools such as x-ray.

Let's take a moment to look at the reasons why lumps or growths form. The body is made of many different kinds of tissues and those tissues are all subject to change during the course of a normal lifetime.

Usually, a thickening or lump turns out to be benign, or harmless, and often requires no treatment.

In some cases, lumps are malignant tumors, caused by the growth of cancerous cells. These growths need to be treated as rapidly as possible...

In order to learn more about the nature of the suspicious tissue, your doctor would like to surgically remove it.

General Surgery - Convivial Corpse Disposal Methodology

From the album "Left Hand Pathology" (2006).
Lyrics:
Pathological waste abounds
Cadavers lined wall to wall
Foul-whiffing stiffs all around
A bonfire would clean it all

Frenzied cauterization
Now seems slightly passé
A more gleeful method seems fitting
To spread havoc and disharmony

Dispensation of carrion embellished
In a delightfully mirthful way
The disposal of my spent toys
A most superbly distasteful fray

Mannequins discretely exchanged
For a different fashion model
Now view the spring collection
As worn by bloated corpses

The ghastly remains strategically placed in public spots
Much to the amusement of my like-minded pathologist chums

De-truncating limbs, slack heads are lopped
Soak the pieces in preservatives to debar foul rot
Wrap the stinking presents and then regroup
To deliver bloody packages to your front stoops

Blithely positioning cadavers on a park bench
Horrified children recoil and blench
Hang a corpse by its intestines from a nearby tree
For the public to admire my disposal methodology

Our gruesome tasks masked by off-putting gaiety
The jocular demeanour veils your repugnance but barely
Jovially dissecting and disposing of the gore
Our brash disposal methods leave you shaken to your core

Unauthorized surgeries
Dismantling anatomy
Solemnizing necrotomies
Convivial Corpse Disposal Methodology

Suspended stiffs on wires
Make for hours of entertainment
A pus-dripping puppet show
An enchanting display of debasement

The jovial sense of misconduct
Derived from the publics disgust
Young and old repelled by the reek
of rank, putrefying meat

The mortuary waste diminishing for every prank
Cadaveric clean-up of my vile, putrescent body bank

Tossing rigored stiffs from embankments and cliffs
Setting carcasses ablaze, and other procedures most comedic
Our ingenuity is tested when our patients die
Inventive methods of disposal our modus operandi

Villainy demonstrated with our internment techniques
Bodies stored in 50-gallon drums until they start to leak
Mincing the dead into finely ground organic scrap
Mulching your garden with our latest mishap

Rollicking through our disposal drills
Dispatching the murdered is better than the kill
Slowly dissolved in acid, encased in tar
Or dumped in plastic bags from a moving car

Unauthorized surgeries
Dismantling anatomy
Solemnizing necrotomies
Convivial Corpse Disposal Methodology
